DEAR RUSSELL, YOUR'S TRULY, BOOK REVIEW

DESCRIPTION

‘Dear Russell, Your’s Truly’, with all its seven stories, the title story being loosely predicated on a personal encounter, is very close to my heart. Every character, every protagonist, living or dead, is in search of love. But aren’t we all? Through their respective ordeals, they do find love, just not in the conventional way they expected. We all are Jason, Raj and Sid. We all are Gauri, Mohana, and Grace. Some of us are Rudra also; it’s only a matter of time till we accepted it. Each of the seven stories of ‘Dear Russell, Your’s Truly’ is a journey, at the end of which, some find acceptance, some find absolution, and some find answers they had spent a lifetime chasing.

MY REVIEW

How can love ever be defined, that too appropriately? The glitter in the eyes of a kid when he sees his favourite toy, the yearning of a distant lover gone for work, the fear of losing out your beloved and kindness sparkling through the eyes of your pet. Love is truly undefinable. Dedicated to lovers, those in search of love or those who suffered a heartbreak in love, Dear Russell, Your's Truly by Avantika Debnath is a book that I cherish, I savour.

A collection of seven short stories, I was stricken by amazement when I witnessed how these stories go on to depict our relationship realities of today.
The book, beautifully illustrates what significance love has in the life of each one of us.

The drafting of stories is epic. The way author Avantika Debnath has penned each story, it feels like she has lived through those moments, herself.
She has poured her heart out so effortlessely that it is augmentative to the beauty of this book.

The book keeps on folding emotions one by one and the revelations, the unfolding of the stories had eventually build up an excitement, unbearable within me. I finished the whole book in a single go.
The story that is my personal favourite is: From the Other Side, from which I would like to quote:
"We talk across oceans - no touches, yet you hold me,I play my chords, I smile often, I imagine you behold me,
Keep your frowns aside now, they can’t scare me anymore. My heart is following your beats, mind is drifting ashore."
The end of this book ended with this very quote and I dozed off with puffy eyes.

It is a beautiful book, very, very close to my heart. I recommend that one should really give it a read, atleast once.

I gladly give it a 5/5 star.

Book Review of Shehar Me Ladka

Some books don’t feel like books at all – they feel like someone opening up a corner of their life and letting you step in. Shaher mein ladka, ladke mein… was that kind of book for me. I come from a small town myself, and like the author, I once carried the same restless dream of moving to a city. Reading these stories, I could almost hear echoes of my own journey – the confusion, the excitement, the way the old world never really leaves you even when you’re chasing a new one. What I loved most is how honest these stories are. Some are drawn from the author’s own life, some from friends and family, and some from the way life just brushes past us when we’re not expecting it. But all of them feel lived-in and real. At times I smiled, at times I just sat quietly with a line long after reading it, and a few stories left me with that sweet ache of remembering where I came from. This isn’t just about small towns and big cities – it’s about the spaces in between, the people who shape us...
